Infographic: History of the Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta was the smallest car made by Ford. It was produced to compete with the likes of the Fiat 127 and Renault 5. Ford estimated that 500,000 fiestas a year would be produced, the word Fiesta means "party" in Spanish. The Fiesta really came to light in the 80s when Ford released the Fiesta XR2 to the market. It featured a body kit along with a 96bhp 1.6-litre engine, this was the first Fiesta to hit 100mph.Over 18 million Ford Fiestas have been sold throughout Europe with the fiesta being the best selling car every month for the last 7 years. In 2014 the fiesta became the best-selling car of all time. The next Fiesta Hot hatch to be produced was in 1992 which was powered by an 1800cc 16v engine. Any true ford nut will know that it's not uncommon for 1800 to be a favourite when engine transplants come into question. Jump to 2005 and the most powerful Fiesta ever produced came off the production line in the form of a 2.0 litre 148bhp Fiesta ST. This had the performance of the older versions but included better safety and technology.Ford has been in the world rally series since 1978 with people such as Colin Mc Rae driving the Ford Focus, which in recent times has been replaced by the all-new Fiesta. In 2012 Ford withdrew from the WRC but continue to support some of the teams using the Ford Fiesta RS WRC.     Ford Fiesta
