Car Care: How to Clean Your Car

Car Care: How to Clean Your Car

The interior of our cars can be a safe haven for some and a complete nightmare for others. Cleaning your interior should replicate the effort you put into cleaning your house when you have guests coming over, or surpassing it in some cases. This week we are going to take you through the interior of your car, informing you about the products we think will make your car factory fresh! Quite often people neglect the interior of their car which is a big no-no with us! We spend a lot of time inside our cars so it's important to have a spotless interior to make life that little bit easier when you are stuck in traffic. Whether its crumbs, spilt drinks or mucky shoes, the inside of our cars take a serious battering over time, so lets show your motor a little TLC!

Car mats and carpet take a serious amount of abuse so its important to give these a thorough cleaning on a regular basis. We have several products we think will work well for car mats such as our Simoniz upholstery cleaner and Autoglym Interior Shampoo. Both products produce a high foaming solution which soaks into the mats and carpet. The Simoniz cleaner comes with a plastic brush head that allows the user to work the product into the carpet, lifting the unwanted dirt and grime! With the car mats its best to leave them dry outside if possible, as it will help to speed up the process, just make sure to keep them out of direct sunlight as this can fade the mats.

Moving on to the trims and plastic components of the interior, we would recommend Xpert-60’s Ultimate Trim & Interior Detailer. This is a brilliant product that breaks down dirt that has built up on the interior furnishings of your car. The application of the product is quite simple, just spray the solution onto the surface or onto one of your microfibre cloths then rub in and allow to dry naturally. For the areas that are hard to get to use a toothbrush to remove any unwanted marks or stains.

Upholstery:

The seats in our cars can be a real give away when it comes to the age of it. Our car interior is attacked from all angles whether it's chocolate that has melted on the seat, dog hair or the worst of them all, MILK! Autoglyms Interior Shampoo is an all-round car interior cleaner, one that can be used on multiple surfaces. This product does a great job on car seats, giving them a new lease of life after working in the product. If your interior is leather we would point you in the direction of the Xpert-60 Leather Cleaner and Conditioner or Autoglyms Leather Clean and Care Kit. This kit includes a leather care balm, a cleaner along with a microfibre cloth and sponge. The process is straight forward simple spray the Autoglym leather cleaner onto your microfibre cloth applying it to the seats. After it has dried remove the remaining solution with a damp cloth. After allowing the surface to dry you can apply the Autoglym leather care balm to protect the seats afterwards, leaving tour seats looking brand new!

Car Odour Issues:

Getting rid of tough odours from your car can be a tricky process, its one of those things that can happen in a second but take hours to remove properly. Autoglym Air Con Cleaner is a brilliant product that freshens up your interior. To get the best results first turn on the air conditioner on a low temperature. Set up the aerosol on the ground of the passenger seat tilting it at a 40 degree angle (See picture below). Finally, press the trigger down into the lock position and allow the product to get to work. The product will circulate around the inside of the car getting rid of any unwanted smells. Once the aerosol is finished you can turn off the air conditions and let the car sit for 5 minutes, leaving the car smelling significantly better afterwards. To keep that new car smell you can buy one of our car air freshener, which we have available in an array of different scents

Windscreen:

Cleaning the windscreen is the final stage of this interior resurrection. The product we recommend can be used on the outside and inside of your windscreen. Autoglym Glass Polish is the perfect product to remove any handprints or smudges that are on the glass. Nextzett Windscreen & Car Glass Cleaner is also a strong product when it comes to cleaning your windscreen. Simply apply the products to a microfibre and rub onto the glass, removing any excess when it has dried in. You will be left with a crystal clear windscreen improving the appearance of your car.

After all these steps your car should look like it did the day you bought it. Words of wisdom from the car gods, if you can keep your car interior relatively clean it will make the journey a lot easier. We hope this has helped you get a better understanding of what is required to thoroughly clean your pride and joy.
